They knew they had received the promise Jesus had told them to await. They had prayed until it happened. That it had they knew, and so did those looking on. They also were concerned whenever other new believers didn’t share in this aspect of believing life. Peter and John’s ministry among the newly redeemed in Samaria (Acts 8:15), and Paul’s inquiry of the Ephesian believers upon his arrival (Acts 19:1–12) clearly demonstrates a basic posture in the early Church.
